How we used Pokémon GO for Pedals NT

Pokémon GO is all the rage, so we decided to jump on the bandwagon and create a Pokémon GO activity for our client, Pedals NT to raise general awareness of both Pedals NT and the Top End Gran Fondo, one of the biggest cycling events in the Northern Territory.

 

Who is Pedals NT?

Pedals NT is an industry cycling body based in the Northern Territory that promotes cycling and encourages people to get on their bikes and to take part in cycle rides and races.  We’ve done quite a bit of work with them in the past – check out the Pedals NT website we created or the Pedals NT Facebook page that we manage.

 

What was the Big Idea?

We created a Pokémon campaign to draw awareness of the Top End Gran Fondo and encourage entries, as well as promoting awareness of Pedals NT.
We set up lures for Pokémon players to find heaps of Pokémon at the Gran Fondo registration and promoted this via several Facebook campaigns.

 

The Result?

With over 200 Facebook fans engaging with our campaign – watching our videos, liking or commenting – we draw a lot of eyeballs to the Pedals NT Facebook Page, raising awareness of both Pedals NT and the actual Gran Fondo, cycling race.

On the day there was a buzz of activity with cyclists playing Pokémon GO and catching the animated characters and interacting with the officials at the Gran Fondo registration tent.

This was a short, sharp burst of activity to raise awareness and judging by the feedback – it certainly raised the profile of the event!  We heard that the Gran Fondo received a record breaking number of entrants for the 2016 ride – which know we were a part of!
